Israel 2014
In October 2014 we explored the sites, sounds and smells of Israel, bringing history to life. We walked where Jesus and his disciples walked, visit locales from Old Testament history touched and experienced first-hand many biblical sites. We were thrilled to see the bible come to life!
We were treated to 8 days of sightseeing in Israel on a luxury coach and 9 nights accommodation in 4-star hotels.

Itinerary
Oct. 19 - Arrive Ben Gurion Airport. A private coach will take us to our hotel in Tel Aviv for dinner and overnight.
Oct. 20- Old Jaffa (Joppa) where Jonah fled from the call of the Lord, and Peter's vision to take the gospel to the Gentiles
- Casarea Maritima built by King Herod, Pontius Pilate's seat of government
- sites: Harbour, Crusade city, Hippodrome, Roman Aqueduct, theatre
- Mount Carmel where Elijah challenged the priests of Baal
- Megiddo the Armageddon from the book of Revelation
- Kfar Kedem recreate life in ancient Israel- native garb, milk goats, garner wheat, separate chaff, grind flour & bake bread
- Nazareth the boyhood home of Jesus in the Galilean hills
- drive through Cana where Jesus turned water into wine
Oct. 21 - fishing boat ride across the Sea of Galilee, serenaded and guided by Christian singing sensation
- Nof Ginosar, to see the ancient 'Jesus boat"
- on to Capernaum to see ruins of Peter's house; synagogue
- Mount of Beatitudes the site of the Sermon on the Mount, and magnificent views of the Sea of Galilee
- Tabgha where Jesus performed the miracle of the loaves and fishes
- Yardenit on the banks of the River Jordan baptism site - 3 people were baptized (videos to come)
Oct 22 - drive up the Golan Heights, passing Katzerin (the new "town of the Golan", 1974)
- observation point at Mount Bental. Watch Syria in battle first-hand.
- ghost town of Keneitra en route to Banias, or Caesarea Philippi where Peter made his great confession of faith
- Tel Dan, the northernmost town of biblical Israel
Oct 23 - Jordan Valley & along the Gilboa Mountains where King Saul & Jonathan were slain by Philistines ~1010 BC
- Spring of Ein Harod, where Gideon assembled the people to fight the Midianites about 1050 BC
- view excavations of the ancient Israelite city of Beit Shean, one of the "Decapolis" (Ten Cities) that Jesus visited
- Climb the Judean Hills to "Tayelet" to get a breath-taking view of Jerusalem, Mount Zion and the Mount of Olives
Oct 24- drive to the Mount of Olives for a majestic view over ancient and modern Jerusalem, the centre of the biblical world
- walk down the "Palm Sunday Road" to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed on the night of His betrayal
- enter the Old City of Jerusalem, visiting the Pool of Bethesda, where Jesus healed the crippled man of 38 years
- walk the length of "Via Dolorosa" (the "Way of the Cross") & the narrow streets of the Old City to the Jewish Quarter
- visit the most holy shrine of the Jewish people the Western Wall (or "Wailing Wall") of the Old Temple
- visit Mount Zion, Upper Room, Tomb of King David, Church of St. Peter-in-Gallicantu (Peter and the Rooster-Crowing)
- the House of Caiaphas where Jesus was interrogated by the High Priest
Oct 25 - from Jerusalem we drive through the fearsome Negev Desert or Wilderness, along the shores of the Dead Sea
- cable car to the Mountain Fortress of Masada, the site of the last Jewish resistance against the Romans in 73 AD
- visit "Abraham's tent" and take a camel ride in the desert!
- drive to the Dead Sea the lowest spot on earth, where you can bathe or float in the mineral-rich waters
- Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were written over 2000 years ago; view of the caves they were discovered in 1946.
Oct 26 - visit to Bethlehem, the Royal City of David, where Jesus was born. See the Church of the Nativity
- in Jerusalem, we go to the Israel Museum to visit the Shrine of the Book and see the actual Dead Sea Scrolls
- spend time at the Model of Jerusalem, a miniature of the city as it was in Jesus’ time
- moving visit to the Yad Vashem Memorial, the Holocaust Museum
Oct 27 - Walk where Jesus walked: Western Wall Tunnel, an untouched labyrinth of passageways and arches
- explore the Temple wall as Jesus knew it, even some of the untouched streets of Jerusalem in Jesus’ day!
- Robinson’s Arch was part of the Temple, link to the market place of Jesus’ day
- Garden of Ophel, a new excavation of Jerusalem in Jesus time
- climb the Hulda Steps to the Temple Court
- take communion at the Garden Tomb; see Golgotha, the "Place of the Skull" where Jesus was crucified and rose again
Pre-tour cruise - several people cruised from Athens to Istanbul on board the Holland America Ryndam. We sailed through the
Greek Islands and Turkey (including Ephesus, Rhodes, Nafplion (Corinth), Mykonos, Straits of Dardenelle and Volos) with extra days of touring in Athens and Istanbul.
Post-tour additional nights in Jerusalem:
We stayed in a central luxury apartment to get a feel for everyday life in Jerusalem, near the Mehane Yehuda street market.
